Everyone has been making a big thing of the fact that not only are we starting a new year, but we’re also beginning a new decade. It’s hard to believe it’s now 10 years since David Cameron and Nick Clegg joined forces, and Germany kicked England out of yet another World Cup.

Here at LW Developments, we’ve taken the opportunity to have a look back, not at the past 10 years, but just the past 12 months. 2019 was a great year for us with lots to shout about.

THE ONLY WAY IS UP

With brownfield land at a premium, building upwards is the new buzzword in government thinking. We have successfully built in air space at our Skyview Development in Hoddesdon, building new apartments on top of the existing blocks. We acquired the freehold of the Lampits estate and, through complex legal negotiations and community engagement, successfully implemented an extant planning consent for 33 top floor apartments.

Our other headlines for the year include:

  • 39 new homes granted planning permission
  • 41 new homes built
  • 235 homes in the planning pipeline
  • 88,000 sq ft of commercial space in the planning pipeline
  • 11 people taking advantage of our Help to Buy scheme, which provides home for first-time buyers

It was a busy year for us, but we were delighted to achieve so much in a short time.

BIG PLANS FOR 2020

But we’re not going to be sitting on our laurels. 2020 is a new year and while we won’t be making any resolutions, we do have a lot of plans to make this another 12 months to remember.

We are due to start work on our 25-unit scheme at the Grade II Listed Northaw Estate, which comprises an eclectic mix of conversion and new-build properties.

The emerging Broxbourne Local Plan should be adopted, and this includes the exciting Cheshunt Sports Village scheme, a mixed-use development of 164 homes, 70,000 sq ft of commercial space and a 5,000 capacity football stadium.

We are also looking to secure planning for 17 custom-build units, the largest such scheme in the borough of Broxbourne, as well as planning on other sites throughout Hertfordshire, Essex and London.

It’s already shaping up to be an exciting year for us. Best get cracking…
